Takashi Yasumura
akashi Yasumura was born in Shiga Prefecture, Japan in 1972 and currently lives and works in Tokyo. He graduated in photography from the College of Art at Nihon University.
Yasumura gained recognition in Japan and abroad with his series Domestic Scandals, that was also published in 2005, in which series Yasumura documented the paradoxical beauty found in the meeting of traditional and modern objects in his parent’s house in Shiga.
His work from the series Nature Tracing consists of photographs taken between 2000 and 2004 in which Yasumura has created landscapes combining reality and fiction. He begins with the ordinary, with what surrounds him indoors and transforms it through his technique and imagination into outdoor scenes filled with mystery and irony that are so beautiful they look hyperreal, altering the viewer’s perception on nature.
Yasumura’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Parco Museum, Tokyo in 2005, the Real Jardín Botánico as part of PhotoEspaña 2006 as well as in group exhibitions at the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, the Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Tokyo (in a show that toured to Osaka and Sendai) and at the Pingyao International Photography Show in China. He was the recipient of Cannon’s 8th “New Cosmos of Photography” Grand Prize in 1999. His work is implemented in the collections of the Miyagi Museum of Art in Sendai, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
