MEMORY. To complain about one’s own, and even to boast of not having any…
Gustave Flaubert, DICTIONNAIRE DES IDÉES REÇUES.
The reproduction of memories is always a failure. Particularly when these memories are unforgettable.
I often find myself incapable of reproducing images coming my memories, even though I take the photographs myself.
After all, photographs are not made to retain memories; on the contrary, they could be made to lose them.
Of course, one can say, following Barthes, “this-has-been”. But one can also say “this-has-not-been”. And this slight disorder rather appeals to me.
I build another world made of fragments, oscillating between “thishas- been” and “this-has-not-been”.
At this point, memories leave me, and start sailing towards a place. I do not know.
