'Memories of Future' is Miho Kajioka's unique collaboration with the Benrido Collotype Atelier in Kyoto. This collotype portfolio centers around the theme of “Girls” and the ephemeral and mysterious sepia images emerge as if tracing a memory. The portfolio contains 6 collotypes of 6 of Kajioka's signature works.
Miho Kajioka creates her works based on snapshots. She carries her camera
everywhere and intuitively shoots whatever she finds interesting. She creates her
poetic images through her meticulous darkroom work. Kajioka considers herself
more of a painter than a photographer.
Benrido Collotype Atelier was established in 1887. In 1905 Benrido had begun producing collotypes. Collotype is one of the earliest forms of printing techniques and was invented in France in 1855 by Alphonse Poitevin as a method for photographic fine art printing. Due to the high level of print and archival quality, it has since been used primarily as a way to reproduce and preserve Japan’s National Treasures and cultural properties.and remains as one of only a few studios left in the world capable of producing fine collotype prints.
