This series documents Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama’s brief trip to Los Angeles in the spring of 2012. While attending the opening of a solo exhibition there, he still managed to find time to wander through the city, exploring iconic locales like the Santa Monica Pier, Beverly Hills, Little Tokyo and downtown. Executed in his typical style of high contrast, grainy black-and-white photographs, these casual snapshots of life in Los Angeles, from the pressing summer crowds to empty back lots and the multilayered reflections in advertising billboards and storefront glass, paint a complex and intimate portrait of the city. This is typical L.A., seen through the eyes of a master.
