The photographs featured in this instalment were taken by Daido Moriyama during a recent stay in Hong Kong. Over a period of four days, he roamed the streets and, true to form, shot whatever caught his attention. He reflects upon his time there through the lens of current events, with the mass protests in Hong Kong’s streets making headlines and pointing to a long-simmering sense of disquiet and distrust that finally reached a boiling point. When making photographs, the distance between the photographer and the subject always contains some critical and delicate issues beyond imagination.
