Record No.33 - Daido Moriyama

In this instalment of ‘Record’, Daido Moriyama relates a pictorial narrative of his experiences walking around the streets of Tokyo on October 29, 2016. This particular Saturday morning began like any other, with the photographer, camera perpetually in tow, heading down to the coffee shop near the park at Ikebukuro station’s west exit. But a decision to skip making pictures in the Nakano-Asagaya neighbourhood as planned, and instead spend the day in Ikebukuro, leads to an unexpected encounter with a Halloween parade. As Moriyama writes, “Problem is, I hate Halloween.” Nevertheless, he took a deep breath and dove into the crowd to valiantly snap more photographs.
