NOT SHAMELESS

Vulnerability always exists alongside protection. Where layers and masks once served as shields, only nakedness remains: a pure, radical presence. Not shameless, but a state in which truth and light enter through the fragile openings of the self. Skin becomes the boundary with the world, thin and delicate, yet resistant and impenetrable.

The gaze shifts inward, to fear, to hope, to the realization that certainty is always temporary. Within this exposure arises a meeting with the self: the body not as separate from nature, but as nature itself, breathing, flowing, endlessly transforming. Every fiber carries a longing for connection: with the earth, with the unseen, with something beyond oneself. In the interplay of separation and belonging, existence finds a new form.

Seeking the essence,

Light in darkness reveals truth,

True self, so pristine.

not shameless is  Elizabeth Alderliesten's second artist book.not shameless is a project that has grown quietly over the past few years, layer by layer, until it was ready to be shared.

It began with a series of images, powerful and vulnerable at the same time. Eighteen unique archival pigment prints, each individually hand-finished by the artist using soft pastels. Every piece is therefore truly one of a kind.

From these images, a stop-motion animation emerged. A visual narrative composed of the individual prints, where movement and stillness alternate.

And from that movement, the book ultimately came into being.

Tactile, intimate, and layered. The book presents the stills that form the foundation of the stop- motion, inviting a quiet, reflective viewing experience. It follows the same rhythm: soft in tone, yet powerful in presence.

Each copy is bound with an oversized, bold tan-colored spiral coil, embodying the rawness and openness of the work itself. It’s made to be touched, to be held, not just viewed.

Published in a limited edition of 50 copies, each book is signed and numbered by hand.
