Hiroshi Hamaya, a leading figure in post-war Japanese photojournalism and documentary photography. His meticulous documentation and depiction of the lives and landscapes of people enduring harsh climates and working conditions, primarily along the Japan Sea coast away from urban centres, is seen in “Snow Country” (1956) and the masterpiece “Ura-Nihon” (1957), which left an indelible mark on the history of Japanese photography. Furthermore, his imprint on the photographic world is immeasurable, encompassing works like A Chronicle of Grief and Anger (1960), representing his documentation of struggles and riots.

Here is one of this photo journalist's distinctive works. 

Originally published privately in 1968, it comprises nine loose plates containing a total of 33 images, with captions and biography provided solely in English.
