Photographer Yuki Mori's photobook “Kyoto”.
After graduating from Tokyo College of Photography, Mori later served as an instructor and eventually became principal at the same school, also working as an educator.
This book is his first photobook, which led to him winning the Japan Photographic Society Newcomer Award in 1969. The Nikon Club, whose membership included luminaries like Ihei Kimura and Jun Miki, had been publishing non-commercial photo books exclusively for members. Mori's “Kyoto” was the very first such collection. Though published by Nikon, it became notable for featuring images shot with an Olympus Wide camera. A photographer born in Kyoto captured not the glittering cultural heritage, but the everyday lives of ordinary people and the streets of Kyoto from a commoner's perspective. Both the images and captions make this an outstanding collection.
Texts in Japanese and English, including a forword by Ihei Kimura
