MARGES (Margins) is a work of photography shot between 2012 and 2024 along the Seine in France, from its confluence with the Yonne southeast of Paris to its outlet at Le Havre. This project proceeds with my anthropological exploration of landscapes. This time my focus follows the border between urban and rural, that tense power line where non-places are duplicated and where the fierce globalization of the form, use, and function of the spaces in which we live is inscribed in the earth. Resuming my technical approach to shooting (the unity of place, time, and scale) and my research into the vernacular and entropy, this series is, in particular, a continuation of my dialogue with painting and the history of representation. As they question our existence in the world (Dasein), these photographs go beyond the spectrum of documentary, refusing to impose any discourse, and giving free rein to our imagination. In them, work sites, empty fields, roofs, storage areas, and industries take on abstract and symbolic traits that open onto a contemplation that is sensitive, poetic, and plastic, and allow me to construct, obsessively, a semiotics of contemporary terrains.
