A new edition of Naoya Hatakeyama’s work “A Bird / Blast #130”, first published by Taka Ishii Gallery in 2006.

“A Bird / Blast #130” is a series of consecutive photographs depicting a controlled explosion in a limestone quarry, created during Hatakeyama’s exploration of landscapes marked and transformed by limestone mining that culminated in his book “Lime Works.”
The 17 photographs offer a chronological account of an explosion from the moment the detonation begins to the moment the image field is covered entirely in dust and smoke. In the instant of the explosion, Hatakeyama’s camera captured a bird flying above the site, first unaware, then obscured by debris, but eventually emerging seemingly unharmed, which “seems to embody both the fleeting and the eternal” (from the publisher’s description).
