Sean Lotman, a photographer and writer from Los Angeles, moved to Kyoto in 2003 after living in Tokyo for some time. He draws his inspiration from narrative fiction and Technicolor films of the 1930s and 1950s in which the colours seem unreal. The very special, sometimes psychedelic atmosphere of his images is linked to the dodge and burn technique (which consists of lightening and darkening different areas of the image). The artist himself develops his images in the darkroom, experiments to the extreme to imprint his own subjective reality onto his photographs.

'The Sniper Paused So He Could Wipe His Brow' brings together 96 images made with a Diana camera and 20 short poems. The story spans 15 years of travel.
